2 hours + $2 + 1 oz =

The Swatch Bangles! :)

Pattern linky here — I used less than an oz of worsted weight 100purewool that was hanging around, left over from an old project. These were seriously ugly dollar-store bangles, if I ever find some in good colours, I’d like to make lacey swatches instead…but I chose solid stitch patterns so there would be a minimum of show-through.

Cast on 12 sts for both; went for about 2″ of negative ease to show off the texture and striping of the yarn.

Do you ever throw away yarn?

Do you?

I can’t.

All my yarn “bits” (like from trimming ends) go into a small bag to serve as stuffin’ for felted toys.

I keep even the smallest remains of balls of wool…I have about a grocery bag full of them now…like probably 10 yd length at the most per ball! I think I might do a felted something or other with them soon, need to clean out the stash!

Is this a sign of sickness, or just my marvelously yarn-obsessed, frugal self shining through?

Knit Re-con Rescue!

September 2, 2007

I had this sweater lurking the back of my closet. Just a store-bought, used-to-be-my-favourite, hasn’t-seen-the-light-of-day-in-years sweater…so I thought, “Hey, let’s rip it apart and see what we can make of it!”

I’ve gotten as far as removing the neckline (HUGE improvement) and was able to rip out the seams in the sleeves up to a 3/4 length. Unraveling from the wrist up is NOT going to work, though, so I will probably put in a lifeline and then cut the knitting and frog downwards.

I’ll post a pic when it’s finished…even if I destroy it! ;)
